Before digging into the design process, I needed to learn more about the industry and the competitors of trivago.
At this point it’s worth pointing out that Trivago is an aggregator for the hotel industry, which means that while websites like Booking.com or Hotels.com are competitors, Trivago doesn’t actually handle reservations, it trawls both online travel agencies and hotel sites to return a compendium of results, then send the user to his or her choice for booking.
From my brief research I learned the following:
I have worked on several sales-related solutions, ranging in purpose from product presentations and ordering tools to showroom management applications. Here are some of the things I learned while working on these projects.
Note: I’ll be referring to the owner of the company that uses the sales-solution as the client, to the sales-agent as the user and to the prospect of the sales-agent as the customer.
More often than not, the client already has an understanding of the problem(s) the sales-team is facing. He knows how solving these problems leads to savings in the selling-process and (often enough) to improvements…
First, a little background… LensOnline was founded in 2004 in Belgium. It is a company that sells lenses online and through a network of over 100 partner-opticians across the country. In the past several years, the company has grown to be the most important player in the contact-lens business in Belgium. With its recent acquisitions, it’s becoming more and more active also in the Netherlands, Italy, Spain, France and Germany.
So, how was the online platform changed along the way to handle such a rapid expansion rate of orders and users alike?
When I first saw “design” and “metalworking” in the same sentence, I knew I was about to work on something meant sharing.
Let me give you a bit of a background. Steiger is a Romanian family business involved in the metalworking industry. They have quite an impressive history which reaches back to the 40s when they were one of the most important boiler manufacturers of that time. Today, the company’s portfolio includes some of the area’s most significant civil and industrial constructions, while also seeing a noteworthy increase in its export sales.
